Questions

Questions about remodel plumbing.

How do I know you are licensed?

The footer of every page lists our license class and the board's lookup page. Look us up and check that the name matches the one on your contract.

Do you work with my designer or builder?

Yes, most of our jobs start that way. Send the plan set and the fixture schedule, and we return a marked-up rough-in sheet before the tile is ordered.

What happens at the walk-through?

We look at the walls, the floor below and the plan set, measure the fixtures you have chosen, and write down which of the twelve decisions apply to your job.

Will I get a price before work starts?

Yes, in writing, with what it includes and what it does not. How pricing works explains what moves the number.

What if I change my mind after rough-in?

Tell us before the wall is closed. A change is priced in writing before we do it. After the tile is up, moving a valve means opening the wall.

Do you pull permits and book inspections?

We apply for the plumbing permit where the job needs one and book the rough-in inspection. Your builder or you handle the other trades' permits.

Who buys the fixtures?

You or your designer choose them. We can order them if you prefer, but we need the spec sheet for each one before rough-in, because the rough-in dimensions come from it.

Is my house at risk for lead, galvanized or polybutylene pipe?

Lead pipe and lead solder were banned in new plumbing in 1986, so a house built before then can have either. Galvanized steel is common in older homes, and polybutylene was sold in some homes built from the late 1970s into the 1990s. When a wall is open we look at what is there, photograph it and tell you before you decide what to replace. If your house was built before 1978, ask your builder about lead paint too: remodel work can disturb it.

How long does the plumbing take?

That depends on the rooms and the walls, so the written scope has a schedule for your job. We plan the rough-in to land after demolition and before the inspection that releases the tile.

Do you take emergency calls?

We don't offer emergency service. We work on remodels, in business hours. If water is running where it should not, close the main shutoff and call a service plumber.
