Process

From plan set to the last valve.

The order the wall is built in, and where we are in it.

  1. 01

Step 1: Walk-through and plan review

We walk the rooms, check the floor below and read the plan set with you and your designer or builder.

A printed floor plan showing a kitchen, a toilet and a bathtub
Plan set and fixture list on the table
  2. 02

    Step 2: The decisions sheet

We write down which of the twelve decisions apply and mark each on a drawing: valve heights, drain centers, niche, blocking.

A black pull-down kitchen tap and a filter tap over a stainless sink against marble
Spec sheets in hand before anything is ordered
  3. 03

    Step 3: Rough-in

Once demolition is done, we run supply and drain lines to the marked heights and photograph the open wall.

New drain and supply pipes with insulation run through timber studs against a brick wall
    Lines run, photographed, still open
  4. 04

Step 4: Pressure test and inspection

We test the lines under pressure and book the plumbing inspection. Tile waits until it is passed.

A pink pipe with a pressure gauge and a blue valve against a brick wall
A gauge on the line during the test
  5. 05

    Step 5: Tile and cover

Your tile setter works to the stub heights on the sheet. We stay in touch with them, and the access panels go in the plan.

A white-tiled walk-in shower with black fixtures, a rain shower head and a patterned tile strip
    Tile laid around the fixtures
  6. 06

Step 6: Trim, test and handover

We set the fixtures, test every valve and leave a shutoff map for the house.

A chrome mixer tap lies on its side on a white basin during installation
    Fixtures set last

What we need

What to bring to the walk-through.

  • The plan set

Floor plans and elevations of the bath or kitchen, even if they are drafts.

  • The fixture schedule

Model names for every fixture, or the ones you are choosing between.

  • The tile layout

Where the tile starts, its size, and any pattern or band.

  • Cabinet drawings

Vanity and kitchen drawings with drawer and door positions.

About the schedule.

How long does the plumbing take?

That depends on the rooms and the walls, so the written scope has a schedule for your job. We plan the rough-in to land after demolition and before the inspection that releases the tile.

Do you pull permits and book inspections?

We apply for the plumbing permit where the job needs one and book the rough-in inspection. Your builder or you handle the other trades' permits.

What if I change my mind after rough-in?

Tell us before the wall is closed. A change is priced in writing before we do it. After the tile is up, moving a valve means opening the wall.

Plan the walk-through.

Tell us the rooms and who is building. Marlene sets a time.
